Giving Old Garage Cabinets New Life with 3M Di-Noc

Howdy reader - Devin here. In this blog post we’ll be going over a familiar subject - cabinet wraps - but in an atypical setting - my own garage!
The previous owner of my home had haphazardly mounted this bank of 3 upper cabinets on one wall of the garage. Where they came from exactly - whether a previous renovation of the home, or some other source entirely - I’m not sure, but these things had definitely seen more than their fair share of use. We’re talking over-paint on the edges where they used to meet a wall, chipped corners, scratches, dents, broken and shoddily-repaired hinges, large chunks of the face frames cracked and/or completely missing, mismatched and stripped screws - the works. Still, what these cabinets had going for them is what matters most - they were super sturdy. Also, I already owned them, and it’s hard to beat a cost of “free”.
While going through my garage doing spring cleaning in 2024 I took them down for a time, but I knew I wanted as much storage as possible in my garage, so rather than wastefully dispose of these cabinets and try to find some new ones, I decided to freshen these ones up as much as possible. It just so happened we had a roll of 3M Di-Noc wood grain WG-1815 laying around the shop from a mis-order that couldn’t be returned to the distributor, so we kept the “use-it, don’t waste-it” train a’rollin and wrapped the cabinets. We even got a couple videos out of it, showing what’s possible with some Di-Noc material and a bit of elbow grease.
Hopefully this serves as a little bit of inspiration for someone with a similar upcycle-style project of their own!
