Bombardier Challenger 604 Interior Wrap
Randy was hired to wrap the interior wood surfaces in this Bombardier Challenger 604 in the summer of 2024.
The surfaces themselves were in good shape, but the clear coat finish on most of the wood had severe sun damage that had caused it to turn an unsightly milky white. The clear coat had remained structurally sound though, so no major work needed to be done stripping that old clear coat finish - the wrap was simply applied right over top.
As much of the plane interior was disassembled/removed as possible, to make installation as quick and easy as possible. Still, even with almost everything removed, and the relatively small size of the aircraft, the install took Randy 8 full days to complete. Below is a full walk through of the plane done at the end of the project, showing close-ups of the intricate work done to give this aircraft interior a fresh, contemporary feel.
Overall, the project used all but 4 or 5 feet of a full 4’ x 164’ roll of 3M Di-Noc WG-1364 wood grain architectural film. This is cutting it closer than we usually like to run things - not only for insurance that a project can still be completed if a mishap occurs and some material needs to be wasted, but also because it’s usually a good idea to keep some of the material on-hand after a project is complete, in case there are any future repairs. Slight differences can happen between production batches, so it’s best to have all the material for a project ordered at the same time, including “backup” material, to ensure everything matches. 3M Di-Noc has a shelf life of 2 years (but from our experience, can still be usable ~3-4 years after purchase, depending on storage conditions).
Below are a couple of videos filmed during the install showing the intricacy of the work involved. For before & after videos and photos, see the full blog post here.
